Seven people were killed, including Alaska state lawmaker Gary Knopp (R), after two small planes crashed into each other mid-air early Friday morning while flying over the Kenai Peninsula, south of Anchorage, Alaska.
The free fall was six seconds and in those six seconds my mind had gone BLANK. If I had fallen to the ground I wouldn't have known it.
Then the chute opened; I spun round and round; got hold of the straps for direction and steadied my descent.
I landed on my feet and fell back on my butt. I rolled up the chute and waited for the truck to pick me up.
I lost my fear of heights. After all these decades I still have no fear of heights.
