Cheapest and easiest thing to do is update the driver for the WiFi adapter. That may fix it. You could also try changing the Wifi channels the modem and adapter use, or move your computer closer to the Modem. Poor signal strength can be the cause of Wifi problems, as can too many WiFi signals on the same channel you’re using. If not, try a different WiFi adapter. Preferably a different manufacturer if you go with the new adapter. And good luck!

There are some very good recommendations from Old Student here.

I myself would go with the Ethernet drop from the WiFi modem.

If you’ve got an ethernet drop, that would be the best and fastest way to get internet. Only things I use WiFi for are tablets and phones. All the desk & laptop computers use WiFi. You can get a LOT farther away before you need to worry about signal strength or interference. I just picked up an 8-port gigabit switch from Amazon for well under $20 delivered. You’d only need something like that if you’ve only one ethernet port on the modem, and it’s already tied up. I’ve got multiple computers and printers scattered all over the house.
