Here in Craighead County, Arkansas (Jonesboro), hubby and I vote by absentee ballot. You have to request it from the Craighead County Seretary’s office. They check via computer your name and address against their records. Then....you receive your absentee ballot. The return envelope has a number assigned to your name that is matched to a list they have of who received the ballots when returned.

Further, we have to enclose a copy of accepted identification along with the ballot (inner and outer envelopes). So, we send it a copy of our driver’s license and to back it up, copies of our voter registration cards (not needed, just a “belt and suspenders” kinda thing).

I think their system is great. I believe it’s Arkansas-wide. A voter ID state.

Looks like Arkansas has a pretty good ID/security system for their absentee ballots.

I early-voted today in Tennessee. ID required, then I had to recite my address while my ID was turned upside down to further match it up. Finally, a signature to match the one on file. Not 100% fool-proof, but very good system. Anybody in the inside can thwart security schemes, but the fewer people touch things and the more they’re kept under watch, the more secure the election.

I work in the power industry - our energy management/control systems are totally isolated from the internet with multiple firewalls and changing passcodes. As much as is possible, the communications for most things are done on a separate network or communications medium. We have our own fiber, coax cable, and microwave communications for critical things.
