back in the day, I was a heavy participant on the swiftboat web site bulletin board, trying to keep John F'n Kerry away from the WH. There was a super-heavy reasearcher\contributor - i won't mention his screen name - that wanted to make a trip to D.C. to present his findings to whoever. He asked for travel and expense donations from the BB members. A whole bunch of us donated...

All of a sudden, the trip was off, he asked to be removed from the BB and all his posts be deleted. That was the last we heard from him\her.( a few of his\her posts still exist)

so, donations under those kinds of circumstances ? never again

Been there had my generous nature abused too. Never again... which is a shame.

Re: making online donations:

So much stuff is fake online, I don't make donations to any cause. GoFundMe might as well be, "ScammersRUs."

After teaching college for years, it was just insane the number of students that had grandparents die four times during a semester. I had a few semesters where I thought about having class at the local ER, cause it seemed like everyone in the class spent half their time in the ER, waiting for a friend/relative to get out.

Everyone on twitter, it seems like, is asking for retweets for an infant that is having surgery or prayers cause their wife/husband/mom/dad/son/daughter/dog just died.

I've been through some personal stuff, and it never occurred to me to immediately jump on twitter and try to get clicks out of misfortune.

Never donate to anyone if you can't verify who they are and where the money's going.
