One time while in Japan, I got a chance to go to the Kabuki-za and saw a whole play. Fantastic experience. The women’s roles are all played by men. They are very convincingthey spend their lives studying how women, speak, move and act. Most are not gay, in fact it can be a family tradition.
All that said, our ‘hostess’ was really just a guy in a dress.
