There was a program a few year ago that allowed people to purchase a rundown house in Detroit for $1. In return, they had to commit to living there for a year and to fixing the place up. I really wanted to do it at the time; I actually had family in Detroit.
Can’t remember why I didn’t invest. I guess my husband didn’t want me to move away for a year.
Anyway, funny story: My great-great grandfather on my Dad’s side had immigrated from Czechoslovakia with his brothers. They got into some huge fight, and my grandfather’s brothers stopped in Detroit. My grandfather continued on to Chicago.
It really is interesting, to learn about your family tree. A couple of years ago, I went to ancestry.com. I’m telling you, that place is as addictive as crack cocaine must be. You just can’t stop. There’s always a new green leaf to follow. LOL!
