I think I read somewhere he modified the sear pin on a semi to make it full auto.

Nope, from another article:

A 9 mm Glock with a high capacity magazine was recovered during a search of a home on East 9th Street Friday. The gun had an adapter that allowed it to fire as a fully automatic firearm.
