That story about the Holliman AFB landing has been around for years but the claimed film clip has never surfaced. There is good reason to believe though that at a deep level, the US government influences Hollywood's stories and themes on subjects that impinge national security. The best evidence for this as to UFOs mostly dates to the 50s, but with little reason to think that the relationship is no longer true.

As for Close Encounters, the absence of strong official US government pushback on the storyline is intriguing but should not be mistaken for conclusive evidence. Similarly, although Ronald Reagan was delighted in the movie when he had it previewed at the White House, it is hard for now to know what to make of his supposed wink of the eye and quip to Spielberg that they were among the few who knew the truth of the story.
