Boom preggos, Its been 30 years for me, but you could mop the floor after almost any split tail walked by. Anything looks good after a few weeks out, and at sea sailors grade on a curve. Who are we kidding.. thats a lie. For almost any woman in the navy theres a hard on hanging around every corner.

Your post rings true for sure.

I used to serve with two rednecks, one from Mississippi, and one from Georgia...they used to wear cowboy hats on liberty and would go out - in their words - “Hog Hunting” and bring back Polaroids for others to vote on to see which of them slept with the more unattractive woman...

They were quite proud of this. I found it both shocking and hilariously funny. The one from Mississippi said he was a Preacher of some kind...

What a character he was. Thin as a rail, missing a tooth, as funny and good natured as the day was long, and his lower lip stretched in the front with snuff, or his cheek puffed out with chaw all the time.

We were up on the flight deck one time during flight ops standing next to a lowered elevator, and he yelled in my ear “Watch this!” and leaned over and let fly a stream of brown spit, which landed squarely on the back of a “Yellow Shirt” (coincidentally enough, an Aviation Bosun’s Mate like the woman in this article)

It left a long brown streak down the back of the person’s vest. He turned, laughing soundlessly through his semi-toothless mouth in the roar of jet engines, and turned back to let loose another stream which hit its mark.

I was shocked he would do that, but could only grin and shake my head. Admittedly, we had a longstanding feud going on with the Deck Division who wore those yellow shirts. I had no recollection today why (perhaps we thought they were brainless morons who had power to bully us Brown Shirts around because they could) but none of us liked them.

There was a flight deck hierarchy. Blue Shirts were considered the lowest (they were Yellow Shirts in training) but the Yellow Shirts were among the highest who went around telling people what to do and where to go.
