" She expressed gratitude to the YPC members for their leadership to ensure that their families, friends, and neighbors
are equipped with the tools they need to stay safe.
Mrs. Trump also noted that our nations children remain one of the most at-risk during and after disasters,
and the important work FEMAs Youth Preparedness Council does to help foster the creative and innovative solutions that make their communities more resilient.
The First Lady thanked Administrator Gaynor and the YPC council members for this initiative and leadership,
stating: One of the main pillars of my Be Best Initiative focuses on the well-being of children, which includes the importance
of educating young people from all backgrounds how to prepare for emergency situations.
This Council embodies that pillar by integrating your voices and vital lessons for children into emergency preparedness.
It is never too early for young people to learn how to react and cope during emergency situations.
My comment : Prepare yourself and your family for whatever probable disaster and have a plan,.. and practice the plan.
After you handle a probable disaster, then discuss with the family and plan for any possible disaster.
Have a bug-out bag for each family member, and have them personally responsible for it's contents, with seasonal adjustments.
For example : If you live near a river, discuss a plan for possible flooding, and routes with highest topography
and fewest bridges, which allow for quick and easy evacuation.
If in an area where riots and looting has occurred, know the safest main routes out of harms way.
Yes, it's a case of personal responsibility, being situation-ally aware, logic rather than crisis emotional reaction,
and using the OODA Loop !
A list of non-electric appliances, food storage, emergency lighting , supplies, etc.,
can be found at Lehman's , located in Amish country in Ohio.
You can see the products available, and price compare, including shipping costs.
Lehman's have 'in-store' and online sales, but some of the listed emergency products are listed there :

My family, perhaps through bad luck or perhaps because this is normal, dealt with two major disasters. In both cases, prior practice helped a lot. One in particular still turned out quite badly, but both came out better than they would have without the entire family knowing and practicing the plans.
Our reviews usually started with "it sure is hot outside, let's talk about ..." or "it's miserably cold outside, let's talk about ..." That always got theatrical groans, followed by some excitement; my kids actually enjoyed the training (always followed by special food treats). We'd then go through the actions needed, including leaving the house regardless of the weather, or whatever was appropriate for that situation, one by one for the entire list of emergencies in the plan.
Thank you for this.
In these turbulent times, here are some everyday items a prepper should carry: a belt with a large buckle, an all steel pen, a large steel carabiner that fits over your knuckles. All innocuous items... until you need them.
