In my opinion, this is one of the most beautiful songs ever composed.

Nice, but melancholic.

I remember the Alan Parsons Project and a slightly older than me friend who gave me recordings of some of their songs. He passed on a year ago from health issues at a younger age and I didn’t find out until too late. I didn’t even realize he was not doing well and expected to meet up with him someday.

That won’t happen here on Earth, now.

May we meet again in Heaven, Mark. Thank you for your friendship and the time you spent with me.

Yes, one of my favorites also. If I remember correctly it was the former lead singer of the Zombies who sang it and did a magnificent job. Colin Blunstone was his name I think. the saxophone solo at the end caps it off perfectly.

Thank you for that link. I seldom listened to Alan Parsons Project when he was new but have started giving him a try.

This song by Passenger "Autumn Leaves" has joined the ranks of my favorites. Worth a listen.

This reminds me of an earlier song in the same vein (rhythm and style). It was one of only two songs sung by a woman, from the album Eve.

If I Could Change Your Mind.

Thanks for the reply. I love that song, too.

In fact, I think I will listen to it right now.

You are correct; The singer was Colin Blunstone of The Zombies.

IMO, his finest moment.

Yes, the saxophone is excellent.

I want that song to be played at my funeral.

I am sorry to hear about your friend, and I hope there will be a reunion someday.
Alan parson Project always seemed to have a reflective song like that on the albums I listened to. Shadow of a lonely man, Time, Day after day, The last Goodbye. Very inventive music. Different styles, instrumentations. I especially liked “In the lap of the gods” from pyramid power album but that was an instrumental...

This is a short article written about that song that was actually written this year. One of my favorites on Eve.

Always loved that song. Used to hear it on late night radio. Love how it ends in a major key right before the sax solo.

Huge APP fan. Post anything about them on here and I’ll comment. Loved the album Eye in the Sky but favorite song from that 1982 Album was Silence and I. This is a 2013 performance of that song. It should be noted that is not the original singer Eric Woolfson but the music stands alone

2 similar songs to your wonderful pick Old and Wise came on the next Album Gaudi. The Alan Parsons Project, released in 1987. Gaudi refers to Antoni Gaudí, the Catalan Spanish architect, and the opening track references what is probably Gaudí’s best known building, the Sagrada Família.

That is a nice review of the song. It really hits the pathos of it.
