No it does not protect everyone else.
Covid 19 is 1/1000th of a nanometer in size. The best masks, the N95, only protects up to 1/100th of a nanometer. Thus, the Covid 19 is going right through the mask in both directions.
Even the masks box warns it will not protect you or anyone else from Covid 19 (see below)
Wearing a mask is like having a chain link fence around your home to protect you from mosquitos.

Lack of a mask does not cause this illness. A virus causes it. This blanket "masks protect others" is complete BS, because the wearer would have to be infected for the mask to have any value, and there has been no substantial proof that I'm aware of to suggest that asymptomatic people can spread the virus other than some yahoo said it might be possible one time.
