There are a number of interest groups at play here, not just the dems...

For starters, pharmaceutical companies have a vested financial interest in avoiding the use of treatment options that are currently available. Given how weak this virus actually is, from the 0.26% mortality rate to the fact that 86% of people who contract the virus have little to no symptoms and so never seek treatment, the actual ramifications of avoiding currently existing treatment options is relatively minor (despite what the news media would prefer you believe). Once a "vaccine" is developed, they stand to make billions off of it, and I don't believe their claims to be "giving it away for free" one bit. That's codespeak for "subsidized by your tax dollars". You don't pay for it out of pocket... you pay for it out of your paycheck throughout the year.

Second, as you suspect, the news media want to make things look as dire as possible, not just to smear Trump, but to keep the economic recovery to a minimum. The economy under Trump's leadership has been robust, and they can't have that in an election year. So... doom and gloom, keep business closed, don't let kids to back to school, it's the end of the world!

Third, and this is my biggest fear... Dems are perpetuating the myth that this thing is the boogeyman... a game changer... and they're doing it so they can push mail-in voting, which has a disgustingly high rate of fraud. Even the dems should be worried about this, because if Americans feel like the election was legitimately stolen (they've made the claim in the past, but at the end of the day, not enough people legitimately believed it), then no matter which side loses, it could very easily devolve into armed conflict... neighbors murdering neighbors... real civil war.

Hope everyone's stocked up on food and ammo.
