Laws need to catch up with genetic modification capabilities, especially now that we can literally edit genes via technology like CRISPR. I would propose that any and all individuals involved in research on, or modification of, viruses, bacteria, or human genes that either involve or create deadly pathogens should face the death penalty if any pathogen escapes and kills even one innocent person. And that’s for labs in the U.S., that are under our authority. For rogue nations like China, I would inform them that after the damage inflicted upon the world by the Wuhan virus, any similar future incident will be considered an attack upon the United States, and will be responded to accordingly.
