IN ... the United States of America, where I belong.

I actually got back Saturday night, but it took me this long to get untracked. Dad passed June 25. By my birthday (thanks to all who noted it) on July 5, my mother was able to celebrate. I brought her Veuve Clicquot and brought in my brother by FaceTime. His birthday was June 21, but there had been no opportunity to celebrate it.

Getting back into the United States required some research, but it worked out OK. It turns out there’s a U.S. law saying that no U.S. citizen may be turned back from the border. Although I don’t have a U.S. passport yet, and I sent in the original of my naturalization certificate with my passport application, they were able to identify me well enough from my Arizona driver’s license to confirm that I am a U.S. citizen. I rented a car at the Vancouver airport and crossed the border at Blaine on my way to the Seattle airport. The only U.S. car that Thrifty/Hertz had available was a Cadillac SUV, so I went in style.

I dropped three boxes off at UPS so I wouldn’t have to pay $100/per for excess baggage and caught my flight to Phoenix in the nick of time. Mrs. AZL picked me up at the airport and drove me back to Tucson.

I’m glad to be HOME.

Welcome home!

Do you like having a July 5 birthday? One of my grands shares that birthdate and I’m wondering how she’ll like it when she grows up.
