I’d prefer a few cannolis from Ferrara’s (relocated to Brooklyn from Manhattan) and some poppy seed hamantoshin from Gertel’s (also relocated from Manhattan). You just cannot get good Chinese, Italian or Jewish food in SATX.
FYI, I was also born in NY, raised in NJ, and relocated to home in Texas (but I was faster than you - I came here when I was a couple months shy of 40). PM me, maybe we can get together for a cuppa Joe (at Black Rifle Coffee Company in Boerne, not that burned hipster crap).
“You just cannot get good Chinese, Italian or Jewish food in SATX.”
Actually, Sorrentos on Broadway has great Italian food. That’s where us Brooklyn people go to eat. Chinese is horrible. Wah-Kee is about as close as you will get to decent chinese food in San Antonio. They are on Blanco and 1604. Of course, the egg rolls suck.
Jewish food is tough. Max and Louis in Embassy off of Bitters is ok. Drew, one of the owners is from Long Island.
Funny story. After a visit back home, I brought back with me a few egg rolls. I brought one over to a local chinese place. Told them if they can reproduce the egg roll, they will have lines going out the door. Owner looked at me, pointed to the egg roll and said, “Burrito?”
I knew then there was no hope.
