I watched a rerun of the 1970s game show Match Game within the past week. A temporary escape from reality. Anyway the host broke into "The "Battle Hymn of the Republic" and the audience sang along in an impromptu serenade. It seemed that everyone knew the words in the audience. That would never happen today in such a format. If anything,I am surprised the song isn't banned.

When Rick Monday saved the American flag from being burned by those two democrats in 1976, Dodger stadium broke out into “God Bless America.” I guarantee that would never happen today.

After 9/11 when it seemed that the civilized world was all on the same page, there a service that Queen Elizabeth attended. One of the hymns was “Onward Christian Soldiers”. I thought it interesting at the time, that that hymn would not have been chosen in America. Not really P.C.

I guess one sign of being old is having been taught the Battle Hymn and Dixie in grade school, having learned the history from the perspective of both sides.
