The Beatles. I despise sir paul and his politics which he should just keep to himself, but one thing that seperates the Beatles from all other groups is this. When you are riding along listening to music on your car radio, at least with me, there is no other group who does not have some songs that will cause me to search for something else. Every Beatles song I can think of is totally listenable.

Maurice White...the guy who said EW&F could have been bigger than the Beatles...if they weren’t black. (and if they had more than 3 good albums)

Even though I favor rock, I always enjoyed Earth, Wind and Fire - great instrumentals, great voices. But, if I were limited to choosing only one artist to listen to (forever) it would be Santana (up until Milagro). His portfolio includes such a variety of sounds (rock, latin, jazz, funk, fusion).

I got my driver's license in the spring of 1979 and so I spent the summer driving my Dad's car as much as possible and anybody else's car who would let me borrow it. I always brought it back with a full tank of gas and the tires inflated so I usually found myself with a car to drive that summer.

Anyway, there were two Earth, Wind & Fire songs that were big that summer, "Boogie Wonderland" and "After The Love Has Gone." So those two songs remind me of that time, when I would just drive for the sake of driving, with the windows rolled down and the radio cranking.

My favorite band that summer was The Cars. They had just put out their second album "Candy-O" and of course their first album was a pop masterpiece and still getting a lot of airplay.

As for all-time favorite group, that's hard one as there are so many great bands. But one band whose entire output stands the test of time is Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. I don't think there was an "off" album in their entire catalog. Just one classic after another. His solo albums were good as well.

Pink Floyd
Genesis
Jethro Tull

My first thought was Chicago then I read Earth Wind and Fire.

They toured together for a while.

I’ve seen both live

My current obsession is Leonid and Friends

Lots of winners here. Maybe outside of the 50 years but I didn’t see these guys mentioned... Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Man, once you are tracking with those guys...

The Eagles. They had so many hits—and all of them were understandable and subject to sing along by untrained voices while driving.

They were a combination of C&W and rock sound.

I would select Imelda May. She goes from 50's covers to modern and even Irish music. She has an awesome voice.
