It’s just 2 weeks and it’s just to avoid overwhelming the hospital system.

Yeah, that ship sailed.

This is EXACTLY like the 55 MPH national speed limit, which was passed in 1974 as a gas-saving measure in reaction to the Arab oil embargo. Well, the embargo ended and gas became plentiful, but the 55 limit remained. Why? Because the mission changed and no one got strung up for doing so. The mission changed to safety, but it was a cover for raising revenue and conditioning the population to control. Safety was a complete BS position, since the entire interstate highway system had been designed in the 1950s so that cars of that era (which included a lot of left-overs from the ‘30s and ‘40s) could travel safely from coast-to-coast at 70 MPH, and by the mid-70s we had better brakes, better tires, seat belts and cars made to absorb impact rather than transmit it to people. Yet, the stupid thing lasted until 1995.

Now we have the lockdowns and masks. The initial reasoning was fine - we did need a break for a couple of weeks to “flatten the curve,” but once we did it the mission changed. This time the motivation was political power, not revenue. It is so nakedly in our faces that it cannot be denied - it is about purposely tanking the economy by destroying hundreds of thousands of businesses and millions of jobs, just so that Trump loses. I am sick to death of this thing - the FACT is that there is a 0.04% chance of anyone under 70 who gets this disease dying from it (and that with the really crappy medical care of March and April included in that statistic). That’s 1 person in 2500, and the vast majority of that is concentrated in the 60-69 age group and those with diabetes or who are morbidly obese or other “co-factors.” For everyone else under 70, it is probably less than a 1 in 10,000 chance - but the heartless PHUCKERS want to shut down the entire economy to stop that (well, so they say - again, it is really about stopping Trump).

When I was a kid living in Arizona in the early 1960s,I remember the highway speed limit sign that read: “resume at safe speed.” Or something close to that. I also remember watching Nixon on TV announce the 55 mph speed limit. Along with banning Xmas lights that year.

Yes. I hadn’t thought of that, but...so true. Great analysis! Just great.

I am listening (again) to Thomas Sowell’s “The Vision of The Anointed”, and he just finished talking about Ralph Nader (the liberal leftist wet dream) and it made me think of the 55 mph speed limit again and all that was wrong with it.
