Muse uses his “Man with a Harmonica” as the intro to Knights of Cydonia.

I always thought it was Hugo Montenegro who did The Good The Bad and The Ugly.

I was unaware until today it was a cover. RIP anyway.

To my great surprise, I awoke one morning a decade ago to the cry of my neighbour’s new rooster.

His rendition of the opening theme of the title music lead me to conclude that the composer borrowed that cry for his composition.

It was an Italian breed, of course.

You know, I never thought of that before. But now that you mention it, I can really hear that in my head! I think you cracked the code. :-)

When the movie came out, Morricone’s eerie music was a dramatic departure from the usual twangy tunes of Westerns. More so than usual, the music also carried the movie, getting audiences to accept odd scenes and clunky dialog, jerky plot lines, and thin production values.

He was a great composer and I just watched “The Good, The Bad and the Ugly” for the umpteenth time this past weekend. I’ll have to pick out another movie to watch now with his wonderful music.

I still listen to most of Morricone, he’s right up there with several goto cinema composers I listen to.

Agree....one of the very, very few movie soundtracks I’ve purchased. Hauntingly beautiful compositions that are perfectly married to the lush cinematography of the scenes.

For those not familiar with the movie the full sound track has been posted to youtube....

In context, it builds the tension very well. If you get a few guys who know the movie, they will stiffen up on hearing it.
