California Gov. Gavin Newsom warned local elected officials on Friday they risk state sanctions if they don't enforce health orders as the coronavirus pandemic worsens, while about 200 state inspectors fanned out to look for violators over the long holiday weekend.

The state budget that took effect this week includes $2.5 billion intended to help local governments pay for services that are needed because of the pandemic. But it is contingent on them following emergency health orders designed to slow the spread of the virus.
Law enforcement and other officials in some areas have publicly said they will not enforce the state health orders. But Newsom noted that it is a misdemeanor to violate state or local emergency orders or most local ordinances and encouraged all peace officers to enforce the orders.

About 200 state inspectors fanned out to enforce the health rules on Friday, and similar numbers will be out Saturday and Sunday, said Brian Ferguson, a spokesman for Californias Office of Emergency Services.

They are part of new strike teams from 10 state agencies that Newsom on Wednesday said would focus on counties with the most restrictions.
"We will be going directly to those who thumb their nose at public health and safety," Ferguson said in a statement.

Some, however, were intent on trying to keep it a normal summer: Dozens of surfers caught the morning swells at Malibu's Surfrider Beach despite the ban.
There's only so many sheriffs so, realistically, they can't be everywhere all the time, and some people are just going to break the law and break the guidelines of public sense, common decency and the recommendations of our trusted public health officials," city spokesman Matt Myerhoff said.
SUPPORT OUR POLICE! Gavin Newsom is threatening law enforcement and other officials who don't enforce the lockdown. He says he'll withhold funds and warns LEOs that failure to enforce is a misdemenor.
But Gavin Newsom doesn't apply these same rules to officials and LEOS who turn a tolerant blind eye to rioting/protests re racial issues. Newsom didn't threaten these officials/leos with loss of funding and misdemeanors regarding the rioters.
Newsom didn't send 200 state inspectors after the rioters - he sent them after people living their normal lives peacefully.
Note that an official quoted in the article sneered that rioters were thumbing their noses at the law when they congregated, that criticism is only reserved for peaceful people.
Note the quote ".... some people are just going to break the law and break the guidelines of public sense, common decency and the recommendations of our trusted public health officials," city spokesman Matt Myerhoff said."
I didn't hear "public sense" "common decency" and "recommendations of trusted health officeals" cited regarding the rioter's behavior - just the behavior of peaceful people wanting to go the beach or walk in a park.
No one is above the law - either it's ok for police and city officials to allow public gatherings, or it isn't. Newsom doesn't get to make one set of rules for his favorite group (rioters) and another set of rules for something he doesn't like. We have the constitutional right to protest - he doesn't get to choose when to enforce that.
WHen Newsom allowed rioters, he opened the door to normal people living normal lives to go outside and live.
If your city/leos are declining to enforce to lockdown crushing our state, buy them a Starbucks card, or a Donut Shop card and say THANK YOU.
RECALL GAVIN NEWSOM. Sign a petition today and mail it or deliver it to a TRUSTED (not rhino) Republican office to deliver so someone is actually tracking counts.
Here's the valid website where you can locate a local petition collector or print and mail your own signed petition.
After Newsom shoved Covid-19 patients in the rest homes, causing needless deaths, Newsom should NOT be in charge of any decisions re Covid-19 in our state. GAVIN NEEDS TO GO!
We've already had our hands tied for real law enforcement and been threatened with massive budget cuts.
You can't fire me, I quit!
this cannot be posted, except from the Governor’s
winery.
The Gov’s winery remains the ONLY location that allows
any Constitutional rights and $$$$$
for the Governor, of course.
California Über Alles!
We must see your Papers !!
“The state budget that took effect this week includes $2.5 billion intended to help local governments pay for services that are needed because of the pandemic. But it is contingent on them following emergency health orders designed to slow the spread of the virus.”
What’s freedom worth, exactly, in dollars and cents?
But defund the police.
Amazing how suddenly democRATS can find something to cut in their budget.
Let them wallow in their stupidity.
If Gov. Newsom would start reading Free Republic, he would be aware that some experts may not agree with him about pandemic.
COVID-19 is close to losing its epidemic status in the U.S., according to the CDC
Send "Orange Man Bad" federal and state government desparate Democrats and RINOs home in November!
Supporting PDJT with a new patriot Congress and state government leaders that will promise to fully support his already excellent work for MAGA and stopping SARS-CoV-2 will effectively give fast-working Trump a "third term" in office imo.
So Newsome is OK with state sanctions on local goverment but whines about Federal sanctions on his state government. Right?
Newsom Warns California Officials To Enforce Health Rules except for my winery business and also San Francisco where as mayor I approved of the homeless living in ramshackle tents and going to the bathroom on the sidewalks.
Is his winery shut down????
Let’s see...how many ways cal we tell Newsom what we think?
Piss up a rope
Pound sand
Take a long walk off a short pier
Sit and spin
Go take a flying leap
Bite me
Stick it straight up your a$$
Kiss my a$$
Up yours
Go f### yourself
F### off and die
Eat s### and die
....and I’m sure there are others.
Despite that, what are the chances that he’ll get an actual clue?
There comes a point where we have to be willing to take a financial hit.
Personally or as a county or whatever.
Ok. Fire me. Dont pay me. Whatever.
If not now, when?
They have no power if no one complies.
They have no power if no one complies.

Agreed. Santa Cruz just showed the rest of the state how it’s done. People “broke the rules” and went to the beach. Officials gave up trying to keep them away because of the sheer numbers.
No! means NO!
Governor Newsom Warns California Officials To Enforce Health Rules
Because it worked out so well in San Francisco.
Yeah, right. The 17 freeway to Santa Cruz was jammed Friday, with traffic backing up all the way to Los Gatos. All of those people heading to the beach aren’t going to be arrested. Newsome will just have to stick to tormenting businesses and churches - individuals are done with his delusions of competence.
There have been 4 deaths in California today, so Newsom says “Shut ‘er down!”
