Erst was a career NCO in the Kaiser's army. He got his face rearranged early in the war, First Marne , I think. Was promoted from the ranks, awarded the IC 1 & 2 and ended in 1918 a captain. Spent a fair amount of time with the Army mission to Bolivia under GM Kundt. I would suspect he would first be incredulous as to what the German army now is (and Germany for that matter) and would enjoy kicking a self proclaimed ‘gay’ or TG service member around a large parade ground to express his feelings on the topic.
