Well, since you asked for advice, I agree with your wife that it's not productive. People with slogans on them like that give off a negative vibe that repulses people, rather than attracts them. Stihl makes a piece of cloth that's in a tube shape for wearing when you're cutting wood with a chain saw. It's designed so you can pull it over your nose, make the cut, and pull it down. The weave is very loose, so it doesn't make it difficult to breathe. I put it around my neck, stick it over my nose when I go into someplace that requires one, and pull it back down when I hit the door.
On what to do about it, I used to contribute $50 a month to Abbott's campaign automatically, I cancelled it and sent an email to the campaign, saying I supported him because of his second amendment stance, but no way I could contribute while he was doing this, and that when he dropped the mask order, I would consider starting again. I also sent an email to his official Texas.gov account, expressing my displeasure. Also will probably contact the Lt. Governor (in Texas, actually has more power than the governor) and my local state senator and rep.
