I don't take any article on this subject seriously when they leave out the four biggest factors in negative outcomes in pregnancy:

Obesity
Smoking
Alcohol abuse
Drug abuse

Not even mentioned.

The issues you bring up are all related to poverty that nobody should grow complacent about. Let alone in a first world country. In the end: everyone is impacted when a whole group of people are falling behind. And social cohesion and neighborly efforts to combat these problems are needed if we don’t want enlarged state taking over.

I’m quite appalled by American maternal death rates. (This also involves non-black women) Something I learned about more while living in Europe and meeting people who were able to compare their pregnancy experiences in both countries.
