With the latest suspension of most cruise lines through September 15, cruise fans are beginning to wonder if their favorite vacation will be taking place this year -- and depression is setting in.
But what many cruisers don't realize is that the final determination of the measures that cruise ships need to restart service will come from the CDC. And the government agency has yet to put those in writing.
After Norwegian announced its latest suspension, a prominent market analyst blamed the CDC for bias against the cruise industry. According to MarketWatch, Instinet analyst Harry Curtis told his clients that the cruise line has been suggesting protocols for resumption of service, but the agency has shown "limited interest" in the discussions.
Through the suspensions, cruise lines have given booked passengers the choice of an FCC or refund. Many cruisers have patiently taken the FCC -- only to have their rebooked cruise canceled as well.
The constant changes are wearing, members report, with many giving up on 2020 altogether.

I don’t think there’s any national or worldwide requirement to follow the CDC in setting out a cruise. These are voluntary choices these lines are using to attract US consumers to come back to cruising.
The biggest issue is there’s still a lot of debate how the disease spread so far on the Diamond Princess, especially the later cases of COVID that appeared. It appears it didn’t come from shared airspace as the cases were so far apart on board, but there were some common denominators in who was serving the cabins (and testing the passengers..)
How does this all roll out? CDC can’t issue guidelines about a threat they’re not sure is using what vector. Cleaning, washing hands, no buffet service? Maybe that might be enough, but the bread and butter of these cruise lines are the most likely to be the most susceptible to risk of death from COVID-19, the over 60 crowd.
The Petri dish known as a cruise ship is over. Nobody wants to be on a floating sewer with 5,000 other people feeding at the trough.
We should have some control over our CDC, but can't control other health organizations in other countries or the U.N. WHO. (World Health Organization)
The cruise lines are trying to get a modest startup in our country but our CDC seems to be indifferent.
IMHO if these Cruise Lines can't earn some income in 2020 ;bankruptcies ,(reorganizing) may be in their future next year.

I believe a few will go bankrupt if they can't hold on another 10 months.
I’ve said from the beginning that the cruise line execs are stringing this out so that they can (mostly) legally get out of their stock positions. Without a vaccine, there can’t be a cruise business, that simple.
Cruise ships are not built or flagged in this country; so the Cruise Lines can't expect us to bail them out.
However in Europe, the Cruise ships are built in several countries and bankruptcies there, can be a more complicated problem for the politicians. - Tom
