I played in a chess club in high school, in the early ‘60’s. Haven’t really played since then.

I don’t like the new notation. When did they switch?

By the 80’s. Algebraic notation was standard in Europe and more precise - each square has only one name. Descriptive fans fought a rearguard action, but lost out a long time ago. :)
