I am accurate with my Armalite 5.56 to 600 yards, had difficulty thereafter. Using commercial 77 grain.

My HD gun is a 10.5” AR SBR, with a suppressor (now a YHM Turbo K) that stays on it, with Aimpoint Micro T2, using Black Hills 5.56 TSX 50 gr ammo. I have, and my wife and son, have other guns nearby, lol, but, if I ever have to shoot someone, god forbid, that’s the one I’m grabbing. And I’ve shot it enough to know it will do what I need it to do. Everything else is Plan B.

For handguns, there are a lot of good choices, and it’s a question of personal preference. I love wheel guns for a lot of purposes, unless you’re planning on fighting a war, and I am a very big fan of S&W for revolvers. I also love my Glocks, but they are completely unforgiving if you get sloppy. Most times when a cop or a firearms instructor shoots himself, it’s with a Glock. So don’t get one if you ever mess up on safety (and do work on safety, no matter what).

Sigh. G29 was my weapon of choice. I may have to break down and get another. Though those S&W EZs look pretty promising.

One wheel gun I had was a 340PD. Great carry weapon but will probably go with a larger mag.

I agree, my carry handgun is a HK P30 with the LEM trigger. I probably won’t win any competitions with it, but it works, to me, a lot like a double action revolver. Which works for me since my other (pocket) carry gun is a LCR in 9mm.

Remington 700 Tactical in .308. A quality scope and lots of range time is the biggest factor. Colt HBAR AR-15, and good scope, if you can still find one (I find "pistols" and SBRs as impractical, in fact a humble Mossberg 800 would be a better choice if you're looking bring a conflict in close quarters to a satisfactory ending.) Sig P226 in 9mm. (even tho' I am a big fan of the Hi-Power and 1911), and a wheel gun like the S&W 686 in .357. (although I favor the Ruger Redhawk .44 for wilderness carry).

In normal times ammo for the above is plentiful. But these are not normal times. BLOAT.

Ideally, each person should be comfortable competent with their choice of weapon(s). Just one long gun and one pistol wielded masterfully trumps quantities of firearms.

A lot of much smarter Freepers than me will weigh in and their opinions are to be esteemed.

The Israeli IDF uses the Ruger 10/22 as their urban sniper rifle - with a tad bit of modification.

I saw Springfield’s Hellcat and felt warm and fuzzy all over. It’s definitely on my list. I haven’t felt it in my hands or pressed my finger against the trigger....but all I know is I want one.

Right now most firearms are “not available” or “sold out, no back order”. so you may want to scuba dive on that wreck site.

Yes, but they use them with silenced barrels to shoot mob/unrest leaders in the butt/thigh almost like a non-lethal weapon, to take the steam out of unruly mobs. Very specific tactical application.

That said, I think every good American should have a suppressed .22; I have several.

One of the most overlooked weapons for out to 100 yrds is a short bbl lever gun in .44 mag. while expensive, ammo is abundant in bulk. I like large caliber (.44 or .45) revolvers for close self defense, one shot, no get up.

If you could only buy four or five weapons, what would you get?

My wish list would be:

Actually they aim for the knees or the groin area (if you know what I mean) and use CCI Stingers or MiniMags.
