While I am skeptical of the protection against being infected when wearing the masks, especially by the untrained, there are some weird definition things stated here. The masks are to prevent you from giving the disease to others, not so much to prevent them from giving the disease to you.

Sadly, I must point out that the mask will NOT protect others, any more than it protects you, for exactly the same reasons.
If you are infected and contagious the mask will not make you safe to be around.
Any aerosol virus you exhale will go out through your mask just as easily as it can come in, so the mask might slow the exposure a little, but it will NOT stop it.

Agreed and understood, hence my wording.
But again, look at the details of what the study purports to say.
