It’s not really if you look at the flag history. They didn’t even have a flag for almost 100 years starting in 1906. The public universities, and some municipalities won’t fly the state flag. This flag came along in 1894. They had the magnolia flag before that and has other flags that are semi official, the the Stennis hospitality flag which appeared on license plates.
