It sounds like a good idea to me but first response has to be self defense. If they threaten you with force that could cause death of great bodily harm you have the right to defend yourself with all force necessary up to an including deadly force.

There is not law in any state in our nation that says the force you protect yourself with has to be Equal if you honestly believe you are at a direct and immediate threat of death or great bodily harm.
