Raise your hand if you knew about Juneteenth before this month. I’ll bet 10% of the country knows anything about it.
I am not trying to get this thread pulled but I think that is worth the discussion considering the date today.
I had to look it up. I never heard of this “Holiday” before.
I’ve known about it for decades, but I’m a sponge for that sort of thing. I don’t recall it ever being a celebration among a majority of black Americans outside of Texas. It has and has had its advocates, though.
Trump’s right that he’s the best thing that has happened for that advocacy. Everyone that hates him is going to demand it, now. So for them, as of now, anyone that disagrees is racist, and deserves their life to be destroyed.
Twin cities TV news did a story on a St Paul neighborhood celebrating Juneteenth maybe 25 years ago. I happened to catch the segment on the news. Never heard a word about it before or since.
Suddenly the push is on to make it a state and national holiday. Do people that think and act in such a way really expect to be taken seriously?
Transparent, pandering, knee-jerk reactions are no way to run a society.
