Ian Holm, the versatile actor who played everything from androids to hobbits via Harold Pinter and King Lear, has died in London aged 88, his agent confirmed to the Guardian.
It is with great sadness that the actor Sir Ian Holm CBE passed away this morning at the age of 88, they said. He died peacefully in hospital, with his family and carer, adding that his illness was Parkinsons related. Charming, kind and ferociously talented, we will miss him hugely.

J.K. Rowling originally wanted Terry Gilliam to direct Harry Potter. Oh man! How I wish he had directed it! It would have been the weirdest greatest film of all time.
On of the only movies that if I land on a channel laying it I will stay there and watch it for like the 20th time.
Yes it is! Might be Sean Connery's greatest cameo as well.
Holm was a true old-school classical British actor whose reputation was based on actual acting ability and versatility, as opposed to just being a celebrity personality or taking the same canned persona with him from one movie to the next. RIP.
The first time I saw him on screen was as the manipulative scribe Zerah in Zeffirelli’s JESUS OF NAZARETH. His character is the first to see the empty tomb on Easter. His performance was marvelous.
