I decided to check out the old neighborhoods back from my college days in the early ‘80s in Hyde Park. 55th Street looks pretty grim, lots of empty store fronts near the lake. A couple of eyesores gone, Pierce Tower, for instance. Some other new buildings, but numerous empty storefronts on that part of the city didn’t happen in 1983.
Take a ride down 55th from the lake to the Dan Ryan. It looks like the 3rd world.
