Roger Goodell would like to see Colin Kaepernick back in the NFL this season. The NFL commissioner said during ESPN's 'The Return of Sports' special on Monday that he is encouraging teams to sign the 32-year old quarterback, who hasn't played the past three seasons. Kaepernick was with the San Francisco 49ers in 2016 when he kneeled during the national anthem to protest racial injustice.

In the eyes of NFL teams, and especially their head coaches, that was Kaepernick’s real issue: making waves when not good enough to do so. If he’d just quietly accepted his demotion to journeyman status (He was beat out for the starting job by Blaine freaking Gabbard, for goodness sake!), he would probably still be getting paid to hold a clipboard somewhere. If it were someone like Russel Wilson (just an example, no insult intended to him personally), probably he gets away with it. Teams tolerate quite a lot of BS when it’s a superstar player causing the BS.

What better way to keep your professional sports league in the news than to push a stupid story about a loser of a former player like CK -- just to get a bunch of media attention at a time when people have gotten used to life without sports?

I get your point on the news coverage of what amounts to empty virtue-signaling in the absence of any sports on TV, but I don't see how this generates any revenue for the NFL.

If anything; it will only serve to alienate the patriotic fans who were giving the NFL some leeway and hanging on because the disrespecting of the flag became such a minor part of the overall product, but now that it is being embraced and expanded to point of being mandatory (see Drew Brees), Goodell is going full 'woke', which will push the fence-sitters over the edge.

The mob has spoken, and every corporation is going to try to outdo each other to show who is the most "woke". A pox on all of their houses.
