Oh I saw a bright one in full daylight in the 1960’s, red, green and yellow with a smoke trail. Like many in the Northeast, we jumped in the family car to follow it, thinking it came down within a few miles. I believe it actually exploded over Alaska.

Yeah, the distance is deceiving. I also saw a Russian satellite reenter and burn. It didn't look that far away, but the news next day said it landed in Montana. I'm from Oregon.

I believe it actually exploded over Alaska.When I was a kid at about 5 pm all the neighborhood kids saw a fireball. I ran into the house and told my mom a plane had crashed! We were in central Ohio. Turns out the meteor exploded somewhere in Indiana and had been seen in 5 states!
