Gone With The Wind is to be restored to the HBO Max streaming platform after it was abruptly pulled from the service last week after coming under criticism for romanticizing slavery, amid a nationwide re-evaluation of cultural values.

But when the film finally returns, it will be accompanied by an introduction from Jacqueline Stewart, a professor in the Department of Cinema and Media Studies at the University of Chicago, who will explain the “historical context” of the 1939 Civil War epic.

The film starring Clark Gable as Rhett Butler and Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O’Hara, is based on a novel written in 1936 by Margaret Mitchell.

It tells the story of a turbulent romance during the Civil War and Reconstruction period. Hattie McDaniel won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Mammy in the film, becoming the first African American to win an Oscar. …

Nobody seems to care about modern slavery. I don’t understand why.

People rioting in the streets this week referenced slavery that ended 160 years ago. But slavery that is going on right now? Crickets.

In other words, you have to sit through a Whitey Bad harangue before you can watch the show.

“Historical Context” should consist of “This movie is a work of fiction loosely based on historical events.” That sums it up.

Like the first black actress to receive an academy award was in it?

The movie itself is a historical context and a reminder of what was and how far we have come...

It should be interesting. Apparently the snowflakes haven’t seen the movie. The blacks were the ones who had the strong ethics and high moral character in the movie, except for Melanie.

Cause we’re all too STOOOOOOOOOPID to realize that racial attitudes today aren’t what they were in the Antebellum South. Or in 1939.

Because the issue is never the issue, the issue is always the revolution.

Disney+ has a small blurb in the the features description about social depictions on some of their older movies. Just a guess but it might be directed at the crows in Dumbo for example.

But this is BS...” Moreover, the classic films we showcase on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) have played a major role in perpetuating the racist beliefs that devalue Black lives and normalize the use of excessive force against Black people.”

Turner had been running a short about racial depictions, black face and stereotypical situations where in black heaven giant size slices of watermelon dance around pork chops growing on trees and fried chicken is plentiful. Point being it’s better to acknowledge and have the discussion. This short seems to have disappeared after the riots started.

I canceled HBO right after their decision to pull GWTW from their streaming services. I’ll bet many others did the same.

Yes, and this move certainly won’t entice them back.

Jacqueline Stewart should TELL THE WHOLE TRUTH:

Six weeks BEFORE slaves arrived in the United States they were rounded up and sold by the Ashanti - an African tribe also known for making kente cloth... (’slave trade’ cloth worn by Nancy Pelosi and idiots for last week’s phone op.

African blacks also used slaves for ‘sacrifice’ so slaves shipped off to the Untied States were MUCH BETTER OFF than the ones slaughtered by their fellow blacks.

https://answersafrica.com/so-what-do-you-know-about-ghanas-ashanti-tribe.html

Slavery In Ashanti

Historically, the Ashanti practised slavery. These slaves came about through warfare and battles in which they came victorious. The aim of slavery varied as different slave masters acquired slaves either to increase wealth or intermarry. On the larger scale, slaves could also be used for sacrifice during funerals ceremonies.

Indeed; I’ve yet to see anyone in the media (even on Fox News) slamming the Kente stole stunt, which is a pro-black-slavery display.

The fact that more europeans where taken by babary pirates and enslaved exceeded the number that were captured by their neighbors and sold out of Africa and shipped to American is pretty much ignored. Butt, history-——meh!
