I believe most police forces could, and should, take a 50% cut.
Too many laws are enforced. Most people break some law every day...whether speeding, rolling through a stop sign or myriad other infractions. There should be only ONE traffic violation...reckless driving.
And end the “war on drugs”. It’s done nothing positive for our society other than convert police forces to armor and no-knock warrants. Not to mention Asset Forfeiture.
Focus cops on enforcing victim generating crime and cut the force in half.
Substantially modify Qualified Immunity so that gross negligence has a penalty.
AND I believe these positions are historically conservative.
The Bonanza is the product of the deep state poisonous trinity of globalism, socialism and crony capitalism. It used to be that each kept some sort of check on the other, but then GWB through caution to the wind and, in return for the globalist wet-dream of invading Iraq, Bush made a bargain with the socialists and crony capitalists that they could have whatever they wanted. The screwee paying for all of this was small business and the middle-class, actual or aspiring.
The law enforcement bonanza needs victims, you know, their cannon fodder. While I have no use for inner city thugs, it is evident that if you are in an undesireable neighborhood belonging to an undesireable class, the police are a threat. Get arrested for any little BS thing - things that a Pelosi son or a Sullivan son would get a caution for - and your life is over.
And the Law Enforcement Bonanza was put on steroids with the WOT. No knoch raids, seriously? THink I broke the law, give me a call, and I will show up with an attorney in 24hrs, no handcuffs or midnight panty raids needed, no broken doors, no dead dogs. WTF.
So yeah, police reform and police right-sizing is very much needed. They should better serve their communities, etc. And Trump has been working on that against both the deep state left and deep-state "right" [crony capitalists are not conservative]. So it's a shame that Antifa, Soros, and the deep state leftists had to launch this seditious revolution which will do nothing but delay very very much needed reform.
And the NG should clear out CHAZ now.
