Most all of them are protestors that live outside the area and have come in. Living in tents, with folks that have opened up their apartments, come in for the afternoon and evening, etc.
Kind of obvious with all the "White girl" commentary that this was designed to pretend Blacks had nothing to do with it...
What is not true? That percentage wise there are many fewer blacks in Europe compared to USA?
Read with focus. I did NOT posit there were no blacks in Europe. What I was trying to say is smaller proportion of population is black in Europe than USA.
I have zero problem with immigrants who are either skilled or wealthy. Those type do not live on welfare paid by hard working tax payers.
Our current immigration system is NOT based on skill or wealth. It is based on sponsorship by an immigrant relative.
One terrorist from eastern Europe had sponsored 23 relatives for immigration, none of them had to pass any tests for skills, wealth or fluency in English.
By the way New Zealand requires 2/3 of above tests to admit immigrants.
You can’t ignore the hardworking American displaced by the skilled immigrant; there is little motivation for Americans to invest in job skills if the jobs are just given to foreigners here anyway (imported to keep salaries down).
She be wearin’ whiteface.
You are assuming the number of jobs available is FIXED.
That is not how an economy works. To keep economy thriving, it has to compete with businesses worldwide. The internet has made it very difficult to stop exporting services. Your x-rays are read by some doctor in a foreign country because the hospital saves money by doing that. Internet is free and un-restricted access worldwide. That WWW you see in web address stands for World Wide Web. By importing highly skilled immigrants, the local economy thrives and expands. A stagnant economy can not survive and will shrink continuously.
American born candidates always have the advantage over foreigners because of language skills and familiarity of American culture. Problem is not enough Americans want to do the hard work of studying STEM curriculums. Majority of PhD candidates in STEM are foreign students. Because not enough Americans want to bother studying hard. It is not because universities favor foreign students, it is simply because not enough Americans students are available.
Look at silicon valley, majority of creative businesses there were started by foreign born people. If we had forbidden those people to immigrate, those businesses would never exist and they employ lots of Americans born workers as well.
They’ve handed over our tech industry to foreigners.
In terms of “American culture”, it is disappearing in front of our very eyes - and that is related to this topic. Americans with dim job prospects aren’t breeding, and the replacement populations have no problem with disposing of the culture they are replacing. Many foreigners are voting Democrat, as they have no roots similar to our traditions; most come from countries with nothing like our founding documents (or the rights they conveyed).
Americans studied STEM curriculums forever; when Bill Gates threatens Congress with moving the jobs overseas if he isn’t granted more cheap tech labor, then young Americans take heed and dedicate their time and money to something else. How long do you need to be on this forum before you realize how many Americans “were retired” from tech? They didn’t retire; they “were retired” (involuntarily). Now I see the same in the financial sector; our economy (and culture) thrived when the laws of supply and demand worked in the labor market, but now the government and industry are openly conspiring to do an end run around those dynamics.
This isn’t the first time this happened; before it was an issue with freed slaves driving down labor costs in certain sectors, Americans were concerned with Irish immigration for the same reason (and they were correct in their fears - that is exactly what happened).
I disagree.
I spent lot of time and hard work towards my master’s degree in engineering. That is a field where highest percentage of students drop out or flunk out. It is a hard curriculum. Why rack your brains out studying mech engineering when you can make more money by becoming a doctor, lawyer, or even an accountant.
I worked for 23 years for an outfit who designed and manufactured machines which are subjected to the most violent shock loads, more than any other machine in the world. It is called cold extrusion of steel. My team had all foreign born people. American born engineers prefer other routes to success such as management.
A truck driver in America makes a good living. Why suffer the hard work of advanced degrees in engineering.
A sad incident all around, and we are paying the price with thousands of businesses destroyed and looted.
I’m not sure how you came up with the idea that the guy was sentenced to death. What actually happened was that he was killed when an officer used an authorized use of deadly force, moments after being assaulted and was targeted with a weapon.
A small percentage of truck drivers make a good living (unionized UPS-type primarily) - and FReepers have pointed out how even that field is having foreigners trafficked here to take the jobs.
There is no genuine shortage of STEM workers in this country; what we lack is an American workforce that will allow employers to roll back a century of labor reform.
Have you actually worked in STEM field, specifically engineering?
I haven, from 1962 through 1998.
Take it from me, there is not only shortage of brilliant mechanical engineers, there is almost total absence of them.
And I don’t blame them one bit. Why not make easy big money as a slip and fall lawyer, Wall Street broker, or even a family physician.
