Ah, so I was supposed to turn that off to play older games that were too fast on my CPU? Basically a hardware version of “MoSlow” then.

I recall a Tron light cycle game that was so fast on an ordinary PC-AT (when those were new) that it was unplayable.

Those were the days when some used to say of Windows that it was so fast that your 386 will fly like a 286 running DOS.

Indeed, to this very day there is no reason arising from game play that a game like Civilization 6 couldn’t run on any 20 old PC except for all the things used to make it pretty.
