Was there in the early 90’s during a brief TAD at the Phiily naval station (I think it’s been closed). The ship is the only surviving American warship from the pre-dreadnaught era of steel and steam. Well worth the visit.
If you haven’t seen it, you might want to watch Drach’s ‘Battle Off Samar” and for some humor “Voyage of the Damned”—the Russian Baltic Fleet’s trip to Asia.
To this day the Russians are unable to sail around the world without their ships breaking down.
They might have some “Boomers” that do, quite easily I imagine.
THey don’t advertise it, as we don’t. It’s not called the “Silent Service” for nothing.
How many of their subs are still underwater after trying? : )
Now you know that’s racist. Gonna have to repaint the fleet!
