Shocking video shows the moment several New York police officers brutally beat a cyclist who they had been riding slowly during a Black Lives Matter protest in Brooklyn.
Pierce McCaffrey had been participating in a solidarity ride during George Floyd and Black Lives Matters protests along Nassau Street near Gold Street on Sunday at around 7.40pm when the altercation took place.
According to the victim and witnesses who filmed the wild scene, McCaffrey had only been riding slowly in an effort to keep demonstrators free from police aggression.
Footage shows a pack of officers pounce on the cyclist, with one throwing clear punches at McCaffrey's head.
A cameraman - Mike Hassell - can be heard telling McCaffrey not to resist arrest.
'They started tackling me to the ground, punched me, put my hands behind my back, handcuffed me and threw me into the car,' McCaffrey explained to Streetsblog.

They on the left has stirred a Hornets nest. Ya cant ram your will down the throat of someone. They are really not in touch with reality if they think they can.
BLM has made a lot of people angry who were not, before all this went on.
Ya cant change things by rioting and destroying people.. and you had to do just that to find out.. you are in worse shape.. and the businesses with your banner had better think again.. people dont want to be used like that.
I came around a corner off a 65 mph highway onto a side road a bit hot the other day. Two M/C guys [they are now out and about] were about 50 ft around the blind corner, side-by side, doing something mechanical.
I think I was in a small car with no oncoming. Some peeps just stop in the wrong place ‘cause they are not thinking.
Just because there is pretty much low traffic all the time in a place does not mean NO traffic. A couple of hundred feet of stopping distance is a good thing to keep in mind. Just sayin’...
I was in Boston back in 2008 with a conservative pal, going to a Sarah Palin rally on Boston Common.
This guy came over and got right in front of me about a foot away and began haranguing me about my sign.
I said “Sorry. Not interested in talking to you.” and I stepped to the side to continue watching the rally. He stepped back in front of me and kept at it. I was starting to get pretty hot, but said again calmly “Look. I’m here to see the speaker. Not interested in your point of view.
And I stepped aside and kept watching but he kept at me.
I am a bit of a hot head, and I could feel my blood pressure starting to go up. I was carrying at the time, and the last thing I wanted to do was get into an altercation, but this guy was on me and I felt like I was going to slug him...but having the weapon on me was a strict hard stop mentally for me and helped me keep my head on.
Finally, people around started yelling at the guy saying “Shut up...he doesn’t want to talk to you” and things like that, and he finally walked away.
But as he did, I saw a whole group of people with their phones out taking video. For some reason, out of this whole crowd, they picked me out and were trying to set up an altercation they could film.
The guy looked like this character from “Forrest Gump” who slapped his girlfriend and Gump jumped on him...
This is not specifically pointed at you, but less mass can be a big benefit too.
Who in their right mind would be a cop these days? The deck is stacked against you. Sad, because there are many in law enforcement who are there to make a difference. They are about to be crapped on.
If you look at the video, there were no demonstrators in front of the cyclist. The street was empty in front of him. All he was doing was blocking traffic.
According to the victim and witnesses who filmed the wild scene, McCaffrey had only been riding slowly in an effort to keep demonstrators free from police aggression.
They were literally just pissed off because he was going slow, cameraman Mike Hassell said.
He was intentionally blocking police from doing their job. Had his buddy film the entire thing, hoping for a dust-up. Got it and is now claiming to be an innocent victim.
“just choose not to because well they are saving the planet and are smug,”
Okay, clairvoyant then.
If those two bobbies arrested and frisked me I would be okay with that...
Cyclists deserve it.
These obnoxious jerks in their shiny stretch shorts blocking up the roads for real people need to be exterminated, or made to buy a car.
looked to me like he was impeding traffic and they were blowing their siren.
Seems like they tired of his antics and he was properly arrested...
But what is it with the cop hitting him in the head?
“Pierce McCaffrey had been participating in a solidarity ride during George Floyd and Black Lives Matters protests...”
Watch the video. The cyclists riding as a unit are in a right hand lane that looks to be a designated bike lane. McCaffrey is two lanes over in traffic in front of the police van which may be sounding its siren (impossible to tell for sure). Video doesn’t show what happened prior to police pursuing cyclist on foot but multiple officers come to assist.
McCaffrey and Hassell set this up looking for trouble. They got it.
Alex, is the question what is menopause?
Good question/point. Most of the officers who have been on awhile will stick around due to most departments having a pretty good retirement. With my department I put in 7% of my pay check into my retirement with a guarantee of a 7% return. When my age + time of service equals 75 I can retire. So the longer I stay the more my retirement pay will be. I can retire in about a year but was planning on doing about six more. With all the crap going I will get out as soon as I can. The problem will be recruitment with new officers.
i used to read the DAILY MAIL constantly, but my ad-blockers make it impossible now. The “paper” has a lot of stories that our media never tells us about.
Typical Intifadah set up by the media Israelis had to deal with all the time.
Lol! There are videos of Pantyfa’s getting beaten on youtube. We all need a little stress reduction in these bizarre times.
Recently I had to study for a written test at the DMV. It came as a surprise to find out that cyclists had to follow the same rules as motorists. No riding on the sidewalks. No riding against the direction of traffic. But...who cares ??
“play stupid games win stupid prizes”
get in the bike lane, dude - the one tax payers got nailed paying for, just for idiots like you
