A black, Democrat representative from Georgia has openly referred to attacks against Trump supporters as hate crimes. This comes as videos of people being beaten and assaulted because of their support for the president circulate online.
Georgia Representative Vernon Jones took to Twitter on Tuesday to express his discontent with a number of videos that have spread across social media, featuring Trump supporters being assaulted on the basis of their political ideology.
The tweet reads: "I’ve watched countless videos of Trump supporters getting attacked in the streets simply due to their support of @realDonaldTrump. Let’s call this what this is: a hate crime. And as we return to the legislature next week, I’ll be introducing legislation that’ll make it such."
