Would security guards doing very low level enforcement at the neighbourhood level replace most police work?

No offense but the difference between a security guard and the police is thiiiiiiiiiiiis big. If you want to police the town the academy awaits you.

Our nephew who is a personal trainer and former bouncer had to bail out the security at Walmart one night because two shoplifters were beating him up on aisle 11.

Many now live in gated communities and have 24/7 security. I foresee this movement expanding considerably.

I could see some taking it even further. Private Gated Cities. They already exist, the largest I know of being Canyon Lake, CA. They could work on a larger scale, and could have the advantage of real police, fire, schools, and access to property tax, sales tax and federal funds, rather than just HOA fees. Of course, it could also turn out really bad if liberals take over...

Wasn’t aware of that. But, I think you may be right. There will probably be more of these in the future.

...and dispensed some informal street justice that kept minor matters out of court...

"Informal street justice" = giving street thugs an informal beating with your nightstick to encourage them to not shoplift/steal/vandalize .

Yeah, that will work in the current environment. Not. Can you imagine the Leftist lawyers lining up the first time that happens?

The fact that security guards like you exist shows that the police already don’t do that police work.
