Professor Conway's passing was noted here on FR by FReeper djf back on 15 April, but not included in the story (not known at the time) was that his cause of death of CCP virus.
Conway influenced me greatly. When his Game of Life gained wide recognition in Martin Gardner's wonderful Mathematical Games column back in October 1970, I was enthralled with it, and dreamed of programming a computer to play the game on a large plane (at that time, the biggest computer I had access to had 4K of memory).
He was truly a genius among geniuses, with many noteworthy ideas, inventions, and proofs to his credit.

I used to have a really good version of it, I think it was in Flash, but while there are a lot of versions out there, I haven’t found any that were as good.

What an amazing life and interesting biography. Thanks for posting this.
I worked with a Brit who was very similar. Pure genius in metallurgy, incredible jazz saxophonist, could write perfect doggerel without editing it, could speak and lecture off the top of his head on many subjects, friends with everybody...just an amazing guy.

He was old, he was in a nursing home, and it was Covid19 that killed him. He was in a New Jersey nursing home.
New Jersey nursing homes were REQUIRED to take infectious COVID patents.
...a daughter of a resident said the directive by Persichilli is alarming because it may introduce new COVID-19 patients to one of the most at-risk populations.
Was COVID-19 merely the weapon Health Commissioner Judy Persichilli used to commit mass murder of the elderly and infirm?

Bring Out Your Dead

The false positive rate was 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's or one old fart’s life, it's worth it.
