On Friday night, photojournalist Linda Tirado was shot in the eye by a rubber bullet while covering an anti-police brutality protest in Minneapolis one of more than two dozen incidents of journalists experiencing violence while covering the recent demonstrations.
Tirado says shes permanently blind in her left eye. (She is thankful she uses her right eye to take photos, so the injury is not career-ending.)
Linda Tirado @KillerMartinis May 30
an update: I am permanently blind in my left eye, and the docs absolutely refuse to let me go back to work for they say six weeks. Im definitely not allowed to be near smoke or gas.
Usually if I had to stay home Id spend a lot of time amplifying folk but reading hurts today
The Minneapolis Police Department and Mayor Jacob Freys office didnt respond to requests for comment about Tirados injury.
Across the country journalists have been targeted by police, facing arrest, detention, and violence, including being pepper sprayed and shot by rubber bullets.

Sometimes stupid does hurt!
“Across the country journalists have been targeted by police, facing arrest, detention, and violence, including being pepper sprayed and shot by rubber bullets.”
Yeah, that’s really tragic....and WAY OVERDUE!!!!!
Should have been socially distancing.
“Police targeted journalists covering the George Floyd protests”
Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn.
Don’t stand in the beaten zone and wont get shot.
When you stand in among rioters, you’re not a journalist, you’re a rioter.
I’d like to see during a White House briefing, Trump walk out and start bouncing some rocks off the heads of these vicious, seditious liars in the media.
If she only had admitted she was attending a riot instead of a “protest,” maybe she would have sensed some degree of risk.
Anyone with a phone is now a “journalist.” She should have listened when she was told to move it.
I guess the important question is...is the rubber bullet okay?
She wears glasses and she was shot in the eye?
Maybe it’s all a lie. I wouldn’t put it past a “journalist”.
*LOL inappropriately*
The self righteous tw@t didn’t wear goggles.
Awwwwwww.
Thank you.
Don't stand in the line of fire.
Very funny Rhett!!!
AT this point, and with her background, she is lying.
The first rule of engagement is to cut off your enemies eyes on the ground.
Handing around riots is a dangerous business. You knew the risks. Zero sympathy here.
