Lawyers can work from home. Its all about billing. I know of one lawyer who billed for 25 hrs in one day. He eventually was disbarred.
I one court I practice in, a judge had a rule when reviewing fee applications: an attorney who billed more than 12 hours for any single day was looked at very, very closely. I recall the judge saying once that solo practitioners were generally more efficient and billed less than large firms, because it was physically impossible for one attorney to bill for more than 24 hours in a single day, while there was no limit on how many hours a large firm could bill in one day.
