The George Floyd - Minneapolis video. Analysis and comments
A fire department EMT was a witness and screamed at the cop to stop it when the dude lost consciousness. She knew the cop was killing him at that point. He knew it too. This is a very clear case of AT LEAST involuntary manslaughter. It may rise to the level of second degree murder given the evidence showing the cop’s “abandoned and malignant heart.”
This was my day job. The State of California used to pay me more than $100k a year to review excessive use of force cases (among many other things). I had @ 800 hours experience in private practice in such cases before the State hired me.
I am not a cop hater. Lots of respect for law enforcement. This was a group of deputized rogues who need to spend the rest of their miserable lives regretting what they did. Knee-on-neck needs to spend the rest of his life looking over his shoulder in prison.
I will wait to hear the actual cause of death before I hang everyone in sight.
Why do you repeatedly reference lynching? Very odd.
Just like the video.
Why didn’t quote the whole use of force policy
Your screen name would indicate your are a nurse.
The medical examiner said he didn’t die of asphyxiation.
Have you made a guess as to how he died?
The cause of death is secondary to the sworn duty of the MPD to 1. cease the use of force when the person in custody is not resisting, and 2. failure to render medical aid when the man was clearly in medical extremis.
And the 4th cop just standing around watching the guy die.
The other two may not have seen the knee on the neck but the 4th plainly saw all.
I provided link to the source. You don't even need to work your pudding fingers with a Google search.
The knee-on-neck cop had 17 prior excessive force complaints in his file. All but one were dismissed. That might have given him some confidence that the odd were in his favor.
“Logical people wait to find the cause of death before accusing people of crimes.”
Logical people watch the video and see a cop violate department procedures and medical protocols resulting in the death of a restrained person.
Whatever the cause of death they acted without regard for his life by keeping pressure on the neck after he passed out.
The cause of death is critical in critical obtaining a murder conviction
The original call from the store that complained about the fake $20 (used to buy cigarettes) told the police dispatcher “Floyd was messed up”.
“A tactic approved if conducted properly. Sloppiness is not a get out of jail free card.”
Not approved for a restrained person not actively resisting.
Not approved for continued application of force after the person becomes nonresponsive.
Not approved for the use of knee on neck (subject to my interpretation)
I want those cops convicted of all appropriate charges. At this point, I would consider torture resulting in death as a reasonable charge.
“The original call from the store that complained about the fake $20 (used to buy cigarettes) told the police dispatcher Floyd was messed up.”
So what! All previous events are irrelevant once a constrained person goes nonresponsive.
So if he died of a drug overdose whose fault is it?
That the problem what you want and what the law wants and says are different things.
“””””The original call from the store that complained about the fake $20 (used to buy cigarettes) told the police dispatcher Floyd was messed up.”””””””””””””””
If somebody from that area says somebody is “messed up” then they would have to be REALLY messed up.
