Parler App’s Twexit Movement Recruits Twitter Users In Wake Of Trump Social Media Wars
Forbes ^ | 30 May 2020 | John Scott Lewinski

President Donald Trump is going to war with the social media giants. Now, there’s a move afoot amongst his conservative supporters to abandon Twitter, Trump’s favorite platform and his biggest online rival.

This week, Trump and Twitter went back and forth with accusations and counteraccusations, sanctions and threats. Most recently, Twitter flagged Trump’s comments on the George Floyd civil rights protests in Minnesota – leading to Trump calling for the revoking of Section 230 for the social media platform. That revocation would mean Twitter loses its immunity from lawsuits if controversial material gets tweeted.

As a result, social media platform Parler (self-described as “the people driven social platform”) pushed a new #Twexit campaign to recruit disgruntled Twitter uses who support Trump or oppose Twitter’s sanctioning. Parler’s new site, Twexit.com, allows Twitter users who want to abandon that platform to switch to Parler quickly and easily.

Parler was founded in 2018 and claims more than 1 million users. The platform’s mission statement says it’s “committed to free speech, does not mine or sell user data, and does not censor content based on politics or ideology. Parler continues to stand with the People and against Technofascism.”

According to Parler’s statement announcing the #Twexit push: “The current surge towards Parler followed quickly on the heels of Twitter using CNN and the Washington Post – both notoriously antagonistic towards President Trump — to ‘fact check’ his tweet warning that mail-in ballots could corrupt the electoral process. While ignoring numerous studies supporting Trump’s view, Twitter claimed the charges were ‘unsubstantiated,’ engendering a firestorm of protests.”

The really laughable part...if PDJT exits Twitter and gets an account on Parler, all the anti-Trump trolls will have to follow, thereby boosting Parler’s membership considerably.

Never been on Twitter or any social media. Value my privacy too much to muck about with all that malarkey.
However, I get to Twitter several times a day to check President Trump’s tweets.
Fortunately you don't need to join Twitter to read his tweets.
However, if President Trump joins Parler or Gab, I may just join too, just to stick it to Twitter.

Never been on Twitter or any social media.

It's humorous to hear people say that on Free Republic.

Free Republic is the very epitome of social media!

Yes.
Not to mention the tens of millions of Trump supporters.
I have been advocating for Trump to leave Twitter for years.

Way ahead of its time.

Parler is alright though. It will get better over time as they develop it.

Free Republic was “social media” before it was cool.

I hear you.
But then Freerepublic was there before Twitter and probably before Facebook too. And you don’t have family and friends with pictures and what not like Facebook. Quute different I’d have thought.

My main concern with Parler is, can their servers handle the workload of a sudden surge of tens of millions of users?
Even Twitter can't handle their workload half the time. It kinda times out a lot when accessing President Trump’s page.
And Twitter video is garbage.
How is video on Parler?

I signed up, still trying to figure out the various bells and whistles but it seems like it’s a great alternative.

Probably not I dont know. I think they will have teething problems but they're growing rapidly so who knows

Twitter, like Free Republic, can be viewed by non-members; therefore, reaching more people. Can Parler?
