Mama Bear and her three cubs were content to eat bird seed destroying the feeders in the process until I had a chainlink structure built a few years ago...

Looks like my backyard, here in Connecticut. LOTS of black bears everywhere! (and deer, bobcats, fox, wild turkeys, coyotes, etc.)

We can't put bird feeders back up until the bears go into hibernation for the winter months.
