I read it once, when it was first published. Didn’t get it, never so much as snickered. Different tastes, or maybe you have to be steeped in New Orleans.

I suspect that there is a very big male/female divide regarding this book.

Probably a little of both. It isn’t for everyone. I loved it and took a glance at ot maybe 15 years later and it didn’t hold up for me.

Agreed. A friend I respect greatly gave it to me and told me it was the greatest book ever written. I got through about 20 pages and then had to put it down. Indigestable.
